Pick up at 7:00 am by Deluxe Tours professional Egyptologist tour guide and transfer to Abydos located 130 Km (80 miles – 170 km) north Luxor. Abydos was a burial ground for ancient Egypt as it was believed to be gate for underworld and it is considered the main site of Osoris worship “God of eternity” and it is believed that Osiris head to be buried there. The temple of Abydos was built by Seti I and continued by his son. In Abydos the temple of Seti I has one of the best perserved reliefs, while the temple of Ramses II walls record the famous battle of Qadesh.
After your tour to Abydos drive 1.5 hours to Dendera the temple of Hathor, which was built in a classic style by the Romans Andy Potelmies. Hathor in ancient Egypt was goddess of Love, beauty and pleasure and is associated with Aphrodite in the Greek culture. Hathor Temple, with its sacred lake and famous astrological roof, is a delicately beautiful structure. Then drive back to your hotel in Luxor which is 77 km from Dendara about 1 hour 45 minutes.
The tour to Dendara and Abydos is a good option if you have an extra day in Luxor. The vivid colors in the Dendara temple were amazing. Abydos though not as awe inspiring as Dendara but was good in shape and well preserved although was used as monasteries. The good thing about these temples they are less crowded than other main temples in Luxor. Our guide Mohamed was a nice guy full of energy and a good company he has ample Knowledge of Egyptology and made our trip fun and entertaining. It is a long drive from Luxor but you get to see Egyptian farm land and villages.
